What does it take to succeed in the corporate world? Is it by chance? Is it based on your IQ? What exactly does it take to climb the infamous corporate ladder?

These questions are not easily answered because of the inherent politics in corporations. The bad news about corporate politics is that it is real and unavoidable. There are no written rules; hence, it is not widely understood. The good news is that corporate "political" skills are learned skills. This book reveals how several successful executives managed to excel when faced with difficult corporate challenges.

This book takes the unique approach of explaining key success concepts through the use of actual case stories, vignettes and proverbs. You will learn what is referred to as the 8 C's for Corporate Success

• You will discern that being Competent and Credible are not enough.
• Why having Core Values can save more than just your job.
• How having Charisma and Champions can propel you into the fast lane.
• How a Challenge can offer you new opportunities.
• Why your Community plays such an important role in your advancement.
• How your Communication skills can define your destiny.
Individuals can renew, jump start or begin their career by using these leadership methods and tools. This book helps you to define who you are, where you are, where you want to go, and the path you need to get there.

This book is a lot of joy to read. The book being full of real-life story telling and case studies, I was enthusiastically engaged with the characters and couldn't wait to read the next chapter. The author goes smoothly between case studies and his personal experience, and in between case studies. The stories are so vivid that I could visualize the characters. I also liked the fact that after a group of case studies, the author doesn't "preach" on what one should do, but asks questions that trigger our own thinking. Haven't enjoyed a business related book with this much fun for a long time. Definitely worth reading.

I did receive and read the book and thought it was very practical to guide both junior and senior execs who wish to continue to advance their career in corpoate world. Proverbs of different cultures were exceptionally well applicable to many case studies cited in the book.

In addition, I found that the book was easy to read and understand. It is my pleasure to circulate the book within the office for those who appreciate being placed in a challenging international market and yet do not have the benefits of (therefore, being immuned from) working in the corporate headquarters.
This book is extremely helpful to those looking to climb the corporate ladder or for those trying to move up from a stagnant position. Not only does it provide one with information that can be used on a day to day basis, it also provides stories that one can relate to.This book has given me inspiration to strive for more in my career and how to achieve my goals.
Corporate Politics provides the optimal combination of useful theoretical constructs, handy practical applications, and personal examples that make the concepts come alive. I found this to be a unique insight into successful tips and pitfalls gleaned from a strong academic background and comprehensive career in business. It was well written and easy to follow and compelling enough to be read in one sitting. The book contains experiences to which many of us can relate, and the instructive leassons learned remind me of solid advice from a trusted mentor. The principles for success are clearly articulated, and in many ways it reads like a successful business handbook. The personal touch, including proverbs, advice received from others, and unfiltered, real life stories, makes this material invaluable. It was almost like reading the Cliff notes from many of my favorite business classics. I found myself looking forward to the next edition.
In this book, Siisi tells dozens of real stories from the corporate world, with issues ranging from affairs to manipulative undermining, cultural issues to ethics, and more (identities hidden to protect the innocent and guilty). It's all skillfully weaved in with an incisive line of analytical questioning that helps you self-diagnose, along with written exercises and recommended online resources. Some of the corporate stories are about him, which give instructive glimpses of a path of personal and professional growth, relayed with the appropriate level of candor.

While many people regard corporate politics as a downer, Siisi shows in practical, tangible ways -- applicable to any industry or job function -- how you can build up the "8 C's" in your life and work in order to increase your likelihood of success (e.g., better take advantage of "lucky" opportunities when they inevitably arise) while still retaining the core values that let you sleep well at night.

The book features healthy injections of wise African proverbs and occasional advice from the author's late father, along with astute applications of some work by McKinsey & Co. and Abraham Maslow to individual careers near the end. "Corporate Politics - A Community Affair A Proverbial Guide to Success" can guide you well - regardless of your stage of professional development or how long you've been working in your current organization -- through many of the kinds of issues one will face across a corporate career.

The writing style is engaging, well-paced and clearly by someone who has learned from the examples he's witnessed, the advice received from mentors, and has built his own bank of skills and resources to propel a stellar career that transitioned early on from engineering to marketing, but exposed him to many areas. That success even afforded him the time away from the corporate world in order to write the book!

However, this is no autobiography. The learnings are told mainly through the stories of others, with the right amount of analysis, questioning, even-handed commentary and unbiased "how-to" sections to lend credibility. One would do well to live the author's advice. As the African proverb says, "Advise and counsel him. If he does not listen, let adversity teach him."

P.S. I had the pleasure of meeting Siisi in person recently (introduced via one of my mentors, which fits nicely with one of themes of the book) and he is the real deal, someone who is always looking to learn more, despite how accomplished he is - another mark of a humble leader. But you'll get plenty out of the book even if you never meet him!
Mr. Adu-Gyamfi provides common sense guidance to those of us who seek to navigate the corporate arena, while still maintaining our wits - and our integrity! He uses very rich and human stories to work through eight principles, each of which we need to consistently be reminded of. As my passion and expertise is in the area of trust, I am most impressed with the first principle - maintaining your core values. He continues with the need for competency, communication, credibility, championing, the sense of community, challenging (others and yourself) and the need to be charismatic. He concludes with tactical advice that gets readers through the first year - day by day. I highly recommend purchasing and reading "Corporate Politics - A Community Affair A Proverbial Guide to Success!" Enjoy.
